Oh, this is a rather involved story. Tirana, the girl, and Tiburtius, the troll, had been travelling together for quite a while, one of those across-the-world quests. Tirana had just been quite rightly accused of witchery, and the local witchhunter had taken her for "preprocessing" at his home before the "trial" and the awaiting fire. Tiburtius, preferring subtlety, had snuck after the witchhunter. As the hunter was tearing the clothes off the girl and thus quite oblivious to his surroundings, he moved in close to whack the lecher over the head with a large plank. Dressing up in the witch hunter's attire, the two of them started sneaking out of the big town. They get seen (nothing ever goes painlessly or without complications for these two, don't ask them about the time they took refuge in the big hole on the plain) and get pursued by a great mob with torches. Obviously, this ignites the thatched roofs in town, and there is a major fire which allows them to escape.
At this point, Tiburtius is not very happy with Tirana, but also knows that she isn't going to decapitate him.
